Robotics Teams off to Provincials Congratulations to all members of the Mandela United Squadron Robotics team on a very successful weekend competing in and hosting the Last Chance Qualifiers. Our teams competed against 29 teams on Saturday and then a new 22 teams on Sunday in the last Calgary tournament of the season. the field included some incredible teams as well as travelling teams from Raymond, Red Deer, Moose Jaw, and Regina. Our Mandela crew represented us well and took home some hardware. Both teams 7277 and 21595 the Mandela senior team and the Women's Division (Girls team) won the Inspires Award on Saturday and Sunday respectively. FIRST Robotics defines the Inspire Award, the highest honour in FIRST Tech Challange, as: "The Inspire Award [winning team] is an inspiration to other teams, acting with Gracious Professionalism® both on and off the playing field. This team shares their experiences, enthusiasm and knowledge with other teams, sponsors, their community, and the judges. Working as a unit, this team will have shown success in performing the task of designing and building a robot." Our rookie team, 15259 was also the second runner up for that award on Saturday. All teams deserve congratulations for a long and successful season. Both 7277 and 21595 will now advance to the Alberta Championships in Red Deer in mid March. We are proud of all of the teams and also want to thank the mentors for their hours of work specifically Narissa Jaffer, Ruth Oliver, and Dan Pye who spent all weekend making the event a success. |
